Avec Mail launches voice-first AI email client on iOS

Mobile email drafting remains one of the more tedious interactions on modern smartphones. A new iOS application, Avec Mail, is attempting to eliminate mobile typing altogether by placing generative voice dictation at the core of the email experience.

The application connects directly to existing Gmail accounts without requiring third-party keyboard extensions or switching between transcription tools. Users hold down a prompt button to speak unstructured thoughts, which the underlying model processes and formats into a structured, professionally styled email draft.

Automated triage and semantic search

Beyond voice drafting, the client attempts to streamline mobile inbox management through several automated filtering mechanisms. The app parses incoming threads to highlight priority messages and presents correspondence individually in a focused stream rather than a dense list.

Avec Mail also integrates notification summarization to condense lengthy threads into brief status updates, alongside semantic search capabilities intended to locate messages without precise keyword matching.

The crowded race to fix email

Email productivity has become a primary target for consumer artificial intelligence tools, with startups such as Shortwave and established players like Superhuman attempting to automate routine correspondence. While voice dictation on mobile devices has existed for years, generative AI models have substantially reduced the friction of speech-to-text by correcting syntax, structuring arguments, and adjusting tone on the fly.

The broader challenge for standalone email apps remains platform retention. While voice-led drafting offers immediate utility on mobile screens, winning sustained market share against default clients from Google and Apple requires consistent performance and deep ecosystem integration.
