The Scale ReportListen Labs walked away from a signed term sheet for a $125 million Series C financing round at a $1.5 billion valuation, opting instead to pursue potential buyout discussions with enterprise giant Salesforce.
The venture round was set to be led by Menlo Ventures before negotiations halted, according to a report from TechCrunch. Salesforce has discussed acquiring the startup for roughly $2 billion, though the talks remain fluid and could still fall apart. Should the acquisition fall through, venture investors expect Listen Labs to return to fundraising with a target valuation of at least $2 billion.
Florian Jüngermann, a competitive programmer, and Alfred Wahlforss, who previously established recruitment platform Bemlo, founded Listen Labs in 2023 after meeting at Harvard. The startup develops voice AI software that creates survey questionnaires and conducts live audio and video interviews with consumers. The platform automatically compiles findings into presentations and reports, serving enterprise customers including Microsoft, Canva, Anthropic, and Sweetgreen.
Listen Labs generates approximately $30 million in annualized revenue, a figure that is roughly three times higher than rival market research startup Simile. Market benchmarks shifted in late July when Simile secured a $200 million Series B round at a $2 billion valuation, recalibrating expectations across the sector where companies such as Outset, Keplar, and Aaru also compete.
Backing out of an executed venture term sheet is a rare move that breaks standard Silicon Valley decorum, but aggressive valuations across enterprise AI have tilted leverage toward fast-growing startups. Acquiring Listen Labs would give Salesforce automated user research capabilities to integrate across its software ecosystem, though paying a multiple approaching 67 times revenue underscores the steep price incumbents must pay to bolster their internal AI toolsets.
