Meanwhile, xAI's chatbot encountered instability slightly earlier in the morning, registering failures across web, iOS, and Android applications beginning around 9:30 a.m. ET. Users attempting to interact with Grok on X were met with system notices warning that the model was overloaded and advising them to retry later. xAI subsequently resolved the bottleneck, attributing the failure to an operational disruption at its high-density data center facility in Memphis.

Concurrent disruptions across fierce rivals underscore the fragile plumbing underlying the modern AI economy. Even as frontier labs compete on proprietary model weights and distinct consumer brands, many depend on overlapping tiers of regional power grids, networking backbones, and specialized cloud compute infrastructure.
